Couch Potato: Top Shows on My Mid-Season Watchlist

A few days into the new year and it’s time for the start of television’s mid-season. The mid-season brings the return of many shows that have been on hiatus as well as new shows hoping to survive the season. Here are my picks:

Returning Shows

Fringe – I don’t know why I have never talked about this show here before because it is absolutely one of my favorite shows ever! I think I am in denial about this being the final season. Yes after 5 amazing seasons, Fringe returns on January 11th for the series’ final three episodes.  I was never into Science Fiction until Fringe.  Checkout this video for a great intro to Fringe:

Touch – Thank goodness I will have something to fill the HUGE void left by Fringe. I’ve discussed my love for this show before and am so happy that it will be returning for a second season. Get connected and watch Touch starting February 8th,  Fridays, 9/8c on FOX.

Unsung - TV One’s signature music biography series sheds much-deserved light on some of the most influential, talented and, somehow, forgotten R&B, soul, hip hop, funk and gospel artists of the last 30 years. Check out Isaac Hayes, Eddie Kendricks, Lou Rawls, EPMD, Mint Condition, Johnny Gill and more on the season of Unsung beginning this January 23rd,  Wednesdays, 10/9c on TVOne.

Find Our Missing - Reminiscent of America’s Most Wanted, this important show puts names and faces to missing people of color through dramatic and emotional storytelling. Step inside the lives of the missing, then help solve the case. Find Our Missing returns for a second season on January 9th, Wednesdays at 9/8c on TVOne.

New Shows

The Following - A brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command. When said notorious serial killer escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent RYAN HARDY (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon) to consult on the case. The Following premieres on Monday, Jan. 21 at 9/8c, on FOX!

Monday Mornings - Follows the lives of five surgeons as they push the limits of their personal and professional feelings. The title refers to the hospital’s weekly morbidity and mortality conference, when doctors gather with their peers for a confidential review of complications and errors in patient care. MONDAY MORNINGS is an all-new series from award-winning producer David E. Kelley and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Coming to TNT Monday, February 4 at 10/9c.

Deception - Detective Joanna Locasto (played by Meagan Goode)goes undercover to investigate the death of her best friend, a notorious socialite from one of America’s wealthiest families.

Lost and Found - Lost and Found takes you on an emotional journey of discovery that showcases the stories of unforgettable and inspiring people, places, and precious items that have, against incredible odds, been lost and surprisingly once again found. The stories range from a family’s search for a long-lost daughter to decades old misplaced love letters returned…from priceless and historic art discovered to uncanny coincidences that bring people together with lost pets. Tune in to Lost and Found Thursdays 10/9c, only on OWN.

I will be cutting back on my couch potato time so that I can be more productive in other areas but I hope to catch up with most of these shows during the season. Now it’s your turn, Sunflowers. Are any of these shows on your watchlist? Looking forward to other shows? Do you need to cut back like me? Leave your sunshine below.

  1. Yeah for Touch, Fringe, Unsung, & Finding Our Missing……

  2. I have never watched any of these shows…not surprising because I hardly watch television. I see a couple on the list that look interesting enough for me to set my DVR to record. Perfect for a lazy Friday night!!

    Thanks, Nae!

  3. I really enjoy watching Unsung. You learn so much about a person’s life and the truth behind such a “glamorous” lifestyle and occupation. I’m sad to see that The Walking Dead didn’t make your list. Me and my boyfriend are crazy about that show. It’s set to come back on air sometime in February.

  4. I love Unsung. Find out Missing is sad / scary especially when they show cases in the DMV. What about Scandal? Great show!!!

    • *waving* Hey Mo! Yes, Find Our Missing can be disheartening but I’m glad these cases are finally getting the coverage they deserve. Yes, I LOVE Scandal ;-)

  5. Hol’ up! You’re a TV addict like myself?!!! Um…we need to do a TV Watch Party one of these days. Maybe for Scandal’s season finale!

Anywho, the shows I can’t wait to return are – “Game of Thrones”, “Suits”, “Shameless”, “Girls” and “House of Lies”. From your list I may have to check out “Monday Mornings”.
