I’m happy to report that my journey to discovering a healthier me continues
On Saturday, I attended CurvyCEO ’s Work Your Curves Fitness and Food Event. After reading this post, I too was moved to action. This event sounded like the perfect way for me to kick-start my more active lifestyle.
Our day of fitness, food & fun began with a customized group workout with fitness trainer Chickaro Martin, President & Founder of Project Fitness . Chickaro led our intimate group of curvy ladies in a series of exercises designed to work our legs, back, chest, core, shoulders and arms. Our workout was challenging but doable and Chickaro was motivational yet patient. Though it has been a while since I’ve participated in any real exercise, it was reassuring exercising within a safe atmosphere with a supportive group of women and trainer.

Post-workout we chatted about our health goals, struggles with weight and life. We brainstormed ideas for continuing the momentum of the event while CurvyCEO raffled off two door prizes. I was elated to find out that I was the winner of a complimentary personal training session with Chickaro!
Having worked up an appetite, next up was a healthy cooking demonstration and meal tasting with Tiffany Griffin of Como Water. How perfect! Tiffany walked us through the preparation and cooking of braised cabbage and swiss chard. After sharing a few tips and tricks, we all sat down for quite a feast:
- The table’s all set.
- Our stuff keeping the fireplace company :)
- Let the demo begin.
- Tiffany sharing tips for flavorful veg-centric cooking.
- Como Water tip: season your water or oil for more intense flavor.
- Como Water tip: used smoked olive oil in place of smoked meats for flavor without the fat.
- Black eyed peas
- Raw carrot salad
- Baked coconut brown rice
- Jalepeno cornbread
- Pineapple jasmine spritzer
- ready to dig in
- Homemade truffles with no added sugar.
- Pineapple-coconut sorbet
- The whole crew!
The event was held at the beautiful Archstone complex in the newly developed NoMA district in NE DC. Thank you Curvy CEO, Project Fitness & Como Water for a really awesome event. I am looking forward to the next! If you are interested in finding out more about Project Fitness, please visit their website here.
