Hey Sunflowers, I’m baaaaaack!!!!! I apologize for my month-long hiatus but I have had so much going on that I can’t wait to share!!
First up is a recap of my trip last week to the 5th annual Blogalicious conference. In celebration of its 5th birthday the conference was held in Atlanta – the same locale as the inaugural event. As always the conference was tons of fun, motivating, engaging and exhausting Peep my top 10 fav moments below…
Sharing this year’s Blogalicious experience with my sister Jaye meant so much to me, you can read more about why it was so special to her here.
Seeing all of my fellow bloggers, readers and friends is always a highlight of any blogger event. I am continually grateful for the true friendships that I have been able to cultivate online.
Whether it’s making new connections or meeting online friends for the first time IRL, networking is always fun. I’m looking forward to checking out some new blogs and possibly gaining some new readers
YES! As the entire world was anticipating the season premiere of the hit tv show Scandal, Blogalicious did it up with a premiere party sponsored by Ixfinity Celebrates Black TV and co-hosted by superblogger Luvvie. #iDie.
I have always admired this co-creator of Honey Magazine and her message hit home when she challenged the audience to fill in the blank “I _____” to uncover our purpose and shared how she finally discovered that hers was “I inspire”. For now, I choose the sun (duh!) but stay tuned as I continue to refine this with your help
Anyone who has ever been to Blogalicious knows that the parties are always to be remembered and this year was no different. The 80′s themed McDonald’s Jam was a blast and we partied all night!
This year’s conference was filled with panel presentations from the industry’s top bloggers discussing everything from branding to book deals. My favorite was this all-star panel featuring Luvvie Ajayi of Awesomely Luvvie, Patrice Yursik of Afrobella, Denene Millner from My Brown Baby, Lamar Tyler of Black and Married with Kids, Maggie Mason of Go Mighty and Shameeka Ayers of The Broke Socialite. These rockstars shared their challenges and successes throughout their many years in the blogosphere.
If you are a fan of TV’s Shark Tank, then you missed out on a real life version during this session. Leading up to the conference, Wells Fargo solicited submissions for business proposals for a chance to win a $5,000 prize that would be awarded by a panel of business and financial advisors at Blogalicious. Prior to the conference, three finalists were selected and had the opportunity to give a 5 minute pitch in person to the judges panel followed by questions and critique. After a brief deliberation, Arsha Jones was chosen as the winner of the $5K prize for the expansion of her product, Capitol City Mumbo Sauce . You can find out more about this product here. Congrats to all three finalists as they were all truly inspiring!
One of the distinguishing elements of this conference that sets Blogalicious apart from other similar events is the genuine effort to connect social media enthusiasts with brands. This year’s sponsors included both familiar and up and coming brands. I am so happy that I was able to connect with brands that align well with I Choose the Sun and am looking forward to introducing you to them in future posts (including some giveaways!).
As part of the 5 year celebration, a couple of the participants initiated an effort to curate various expressions of love through a campaign called #DearBlogalicious. Blogalicious has touched so many people in different ways that it was super awesome viewing the different tributes from past and present participants and of course many tears were shed
Of course there were many more moments including workshops, impromptu meetings, receptions, swag, etc. that all contributed to Blogalicious5 being fabulously successful! These are merely my top 10.
