Baby Bump Diaries: 26 Weeks

Happy Friday Sunflowers! Not much new in baby bump land this week so fellow blogger, OK Dani, was kind enough to pass on the following survey to help me keep you updated:

How Far Along? 26 weeks, 5 days

Symptoms: Heartburn  – I swear even water gives me heartburn at this point.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  I’ve lost close to 20 lbs since pregnant \O/

Sleep: I sleep in 45 minute intervals at night so I look forward to my midday naps.

Food Cravings: I have yet to experience any cravings whatsoever…

Best Moment This Week: Seeing Baby Sunshine yawn and get the hiccups on the ultrasound screen….it was the cutest thing and since it was in the middle of a fetal echocardiogram, we also got to hear it =D

Movement: Constant kicking, mostly at night – not painful though.

Labor Signs: Ummm….no thanks.

Gender: The antics of my family & friends to try to get us to “slip up” crack me up. In due time grasshoppers 😉

Belly Button In Or Out? Innie…..for now.

What I Miss: Uninterrupted sleep, blue cheese and smoked fish.

What I Am Looking Forward To: Childbirth and Baby Care classes – we start next week!!!

Milestones: Baby Sunshine is now almost to 2 pounds!!!

Weekly Wisdom: I’ve become one of THOSE people. Let me explain: all of my adult life, I have despised the phrase “it’s different when you have your own”. You see, as an early childhood trainer/consultant and former teacher, folks have always given me the side eye regarding my expertise because I didn’t have children of my own. Well last week I was having dinner with some friends and I mentioned being nervous about the infant stage and threatened to harass one of them ( a veteran Mom) with calls & questions once the baby comes. My other friend (not yet a Mom) chimed in and mentioned that I could call her too because she went through it all as an Aunt. I immediately responded with “yeah, but that’s not the same”. Certainly my intent was not to invalidate her experience (as I have felt others have often done to me over the years) but I realized in that moment that being a parent is another level of experience and responsibility. Hmm….wisdom indeed.

So that’s all for now. What are your thoughts on my weekly wisdom? Keep that sage advice coming and leave your sunshine below 🙂

  1. So sorry about your sleeping problems. I slept well until my 8th month where I was incredibly uncomfortable. Enjoy your baby classes!

  2. And it feels so good being in the “parent with experience club”. All my nieces who are 5 years younger than me had children, some had more than one before I had a child. I always felt like the fact that I babysat them gave me credibility with my experiences. Well they let me know having your own trumped that. How good it feels now to be able to be taken seriously 😀 Nice article!

  3. I have a niece and nephew but no children of my own. The “it’s different when you have your own” comment is something I’m used to and it bothers me at times but then I think…IT IS different but isn’t every pregnancy and child different too? I honestly think the biggest difference is when my niece is screaming at the top of her lungs I can give her back to her mommy. 🙂

  4. Yes it is, when you have your own everything you said you would or would not do sometimes does not apply… the most important thing is to Love them, listen to them, and watch the signs they bring you about them and you…:0)

  5. Interesting …i often try and give advice on parenting since i am a hands on aunt…. what’s the saying … It’s takes a village to raise a child. I know it will be different when i have my own … then I’ll be one of those people too lol

Love your response to Labor pains lol
