Happy Tuesday Sunflowers!

Even if you have yet to see the movie like me, many of us are familiar with Idina Menzel’s Academy Award-winning song Let It Go from the popular Disney hit Frozen. Well I am happy to announce that today, September 30th, Walt Disney Records is set to release Frozen: The Songs featuring all 10 songs from the Oscar ®-winning film, a vinyl edition and a Spanish language version Frozen Canciones de Una Aventura Congelada, plus the digital score album from composer Christophe Beck.  The specially priced Songs CD also includes a fold-out poster and stickers.

This movie is a major hit with my niece, nephews and godchildren so imagine my excitement at  having the chance to preview an advance copy of the soundtrack! Anyone who knows me knows that I am quick to belt out a tune and this cd is perfect for doing just that. Peep the track list:

These tracks are bursting with feel good energy! My favs are For the First Time in Forever, Love is an Open Door and of course, Let It Go 🙂 I even have Baby Sunshine singing  her own version of Let It Go along with me! I can’t wait to introduce her to the film once she’s just a wee bit older. In addition to the 10 songs, the specially priced Songs CD also includes a fold-out poster and stickers!

It’s that time of the year!  I absolutely LOVE movie award season. With the People’s Choice, Critics Choice, Golden Globes and Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) Awards all behind us, that leaves the 86th Annual Academy Awards yet to be broadcast. The 2014 Oscar® nominees were announced last week and boy am I excited! Here’s a look at the Best Picture nominees (please click on the image to view the trailer)…

Only 5 of the 9 films were on my radar as possible nominees but I haven’t seen any. I expected both Lee Daniel’s The Butler as well as Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom to make the list. I am surprised by Her, Philomena, Nebraska and The Wolf of Wallstreet.  Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to viewing them all during the AMC Best Picture Showcase.

For the 8th year in a row, the AMC Best Picture Showcase event features the showing of all nine Best Picture nominees just in time for the Oscars® on March 2nd! The popular movie theatre chain splits the movies between two days so you can:1) choose to attend one day or 2) go both days and see all the movies. For super fans, there is also an option to attend a one-day event with all nine movies! This 24-hour Marathon event is only for the most enthusiastic of  movie fans but I always have a good time! There are usually plenty of giveaways, trivia  and social media integration to boot! This is a nationwide event, so be sure to check for locations near you here.

Have you seen any of these nominated films? Any hits or misses? Is the Best Picture Showcase something that you would attend? Leave your sunshine below.

Couch Potato: Orange Gladiators Stand Up!

orangeglads1

My television addiction is no secret and this isn’t helping. Fans from two of my favorite shows, Scandal and Orange is The New Black, have come together to call themselves the Orange Gladiators! Genius, I tell ya! The best part is that the two casts are joining in on the fun. Both shows tout superior writing and highly talented ensemble casts. Checkout this IG video of OITNB cast members Uzo Aduba and Danielle Brooks re-enacting the popular Scandal Olivia/Papa Pope scene:

Hilarious!!!! But wait, there’s more. Follow #OrangeGladiators on twi.tter for more of this awesome mashup from fans and casts alike.

Although the 2nd season is set to premiere in early ’14, there’s still time to watch the entire 1st season of OITNB exclusively on Netflix here. Haven’t caught on to the Scandal craze just yet? Catch up now via OnDemand, Netflix or BET.

I think I’m in love. Are you an Orange Gladiator? What other type of mashup shenanigans would you like to see from the actors? Leave your sunshine below.

Couch Potato: Orange is the new Black

If you follow me on social media, you are well aware of the fact that I am seriously crushing on the new Netflix original series Orange is the new Black. “From the creator of  Showtime’s Weeds,  OITNB is a heartbreaking and hilarious new series set in a women’s prison. Piper Chapman’s wild past comes back to haunt her, resulting in her arrest and detention in a federal penitentiary. To pay her debt to society, Piper trades her comfortable New York life for an orange prison jumpsuit and finds unexpected conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric group of inmates.”

I binge watched the first 12 episodes in one sitting. The only reason that I didn’t initially stop at episode 12 was because I realized that episode 13 was the season finale and I wanted to prolong the season coming to an end. I finally finished the entire season this week. The great news is that OITNB was renewed for season 2 within a few days of its debut!!!

Based on Piper Kerman’s memoir of the same name, this show is so many things all at once: funny, raw, touching and real. One of my favorite elements of the show is the pre-prison flashblack. Through these flashbacks we are able to get a glimpse of each character’s backstory which led to their present-day correctional residence. Although there are several great characters, my favorite by far is known as Crazy Eyes. Played by Uzo Adaba, Crazy Eyes is first introduced to us when she takes a rather strong yet unrequited liking to Piper within her first few days of prison. Get to know more about Crazy Eyes in this awesome clip put together by another fan:

Chocolate and vanilla swiiiiiiiiiiirllllllll! Ha! LOVE her! Oh and Shadow and Act just announced that her character has been upgraded to a series regular….yippee!!!! I’m looking forward to finding out more about my homie Crazy Eyes next season =D

Be sure to catch all 13 episodes of OITNB streaming NOW on Netflix! You will not regret it.

Set in Brooklyn on the eve of President Obama’s history-making election, three former members of a once promising hip-hop crew cross paths again to discover that some things never change. Former frontman John, once known as Big Words, is now a working class guy who raps only to himself. James is a publicist living with his boyfriend, far removed from the days when he rhymed about getting girls. While DJ Malik still spins records with a longing for the glory days. Together again, the friends reckon with dreams deferred and dreams yet to come.
