Oh Em Gizzy!! I am so excited. It’s that time of the year: movie award season. And that means time for the AMC Best Picture Showcase. This event is held every year as a pre-cursor to the Academy Awards. Select AMC Theatres across the country hold day-long viewing events for film buffs like me. This event is the ultimate opportunity to view all of the “Best Picture” nominees in one sitting, while discussing the nominees with fellow film buffs and participating in cool trivia and giveaways.
This year given the 9 nominees, the event is being split into two days. Thank goodness because I will be in San Francisco the week of the Oscars and I’m pretty sure my sis and her fam wouldn’t be up for spending an entire day holed up in a movie theatre! In case you’re curious, the schedule looks like this:
Saturday, February 18:
11:00AM: War Horse
1:40PM: Moneyball
4:10PM: The Tree of Life
7:30PM: The Descendants
11:00AM: Hugo 3D
1:20PM: The Help
4:00PM: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
7:15PM: The Artist
9:05PM: Midnight in Paris
I will be opting for the first showing which works out perfect because I have already seen The Help and have no interest in seeing The Artist.
Additionally, for the most serious of movie goers, theatres in DC, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, LA, New York and San Francisco will also offer a full (nearly) 24-hour marathon of all nine movies on Saturday, February 25th.
Tickets start at $30 and include an AMC gift card that can be used the day of the event. For more information on participating locations, showtimes and pricing, visit http://go.amctheatres.com/bps .
This year I was equally excited to hear about the Global Glimpses series at National Geographic Live! which offers screenings of all five 2012 Best Foreign Language Film nominees. The screenings will take place February 17-19 and the cost is $8.00 per film. All screenings include receptions before or after the films. So…who’s with me? Does anyone else get giddy during movie award season? Know of any other screening events? Leave your sunshine below.
